This year, we are excited to be welcoming renowned critical literacy scholar Hilary Janks as our keynote speaker. Having worked at Wits University for over 35 years in English teacher education, Dr. Janks is now a part-time academic, writer and consultant. She trained as a both a literary scholar and an applied linguist, with expertise in language education and literacy – particularly critical literacy. Dr. Janks has now accumulated 41 years of experience of providing English education in a multilingual context – six years as a secondary school English teacher and 35 years as a teacher educator.
